Auckland Council
Auckland Council is the local government council for the Auckland (Māori: Tāmaki Makaurau) region in New Zealand. In 2019 Mayor Phil Goff announced a commitment to reduce corporate emissions by 20% though decarbonising the corporate fleet and shifting to sustainable energy across community facilities.
Rebecca lead a dynamic team in scoping the technology, systems, process and cultural changes needed to achieve a 50% reduction in corporate fleet emissions by 2025. A 5 year road map was designed and handed over to remove complexity and allow ‘business as usual’ processes to deliver with working group oversight monitoring progress.
What value was added?
Detailed scoping of the fleet decarbonisation programme, integrated projects to achieve a 50% corporate fleet reduction by 2025.
Disruption of the traditional feet business model to shifting the team towards delivering ‘workplace travel as a service’ rather than the narrow slice of fleet.
A recommended re-pivot of the programme was agreed to move from decarbonisation to optimisation, with new ways of working embedded using kaizen and agile methodologies.
Existing policies and procedures were refreshed, and a backlog of improvements identified to enhance the customer experience and streamline common process.
New KPIs were embedded to provide transparency of progress against carbon, cost and behaviour measures, reported via a new management dashboard.
In parallel mobilising as a high preforming team to respond to covid-19 and a fast changing business place with $200k+ OPEX savings secured for the FY20/21 Emergency Budget.
